Well this is it! This is the very last day of 2009! Does anyone feel any different? Any anxiety, excitement or dread for all the cash we will probably shell out tonight on parties and dates that, most likely, won’t be remembered tomorrow much less further down the road (well, unless tonight is when little Johnny or little Mary is “partied” into being).
As I look back on 2009 I remember a lot of ups and downs. 2009 officially marked the end of full-time freelancing practice, but it’s also the year that I began working in a new career field. It is also the year that I officially spent more on fixing my car than what the damn thing is worth, as well as, the year that I found out what it was like being a Hebrew in Egypt building the pyramids (it’s another car problem related story that involves walking miles with a car battery – trust me, it sucks). 2009 was also the year I finally broke the death grip that WoW had on me (really I wasn’t an addict, I just didn’t want to neglect my life in Azeroth – I mean, you gotta have priorities). And 2009 was also the year that Robot Friday finally came to fruition.
Robot Friday has been an amazing experience for me, so far. The comic has not only helped me get my daily drawing back into routine, but it’s also helped me meet a lot of really great people on and off the internet. With the comic I also have something I can look forward to creating that is from my voice (a luxury that is rarely afforded when you’re a freelance creative).
2009 was also marked by a lot of new friends I’ve made that have really begun to change my life in one way or another. And finally, 2009 also marks the year I met my new girlfriend and found a little ray of happiness and hope for the first time in a long while. But enough of looking back, the last day of ’09 is here whether any of us are ready for it or not. It’s time to look forward to what the new year will bring.
2010, right now, is looking to be pretty bright for me. A lot of great new things are going to happening with the comic (some of which I will post about tomorrow). I’m also going to work a lot harder on my cartooning and writing skills so that I can improve the quality of the comic and bring in new readers. I am hoping to increase my revenue stream as well so that maybe I can put more time into the comic and have to spend less time working on things outside of the comic. I plan to spend more time on personal relationships outside of the internet and gaming too. All in all 2009 was a pretty great year and 2010, hopefully, will shape up to be better.
Here’s to what’s left of ’09 – do with it as you may and don’t be an idiot tonight – and here’s to hoping that ’10 will blow this one outta the water. Cya next year
