Sorry again guys for the lack of new comics this week. At least I have one up for Friday! This whole comic has pretty much been an experiment. It didn’t start out that way, but the more I toyed with an upgraded look for Michele, the more everything just became a “Let’s do this and see what happens” exercise.
The first things I’ve toyed with is the inking and drawing style. Though the overall feel is still like the rest of the strips, I feel that I got a little more detailed and a little more unified and loose at the same time. I have also been playing with the backgrounds for a long while now (even when they were black and white strips) but I feel like I am starting to find a nice place I want to be with them.
But the biggest experiment in today’s strip, I suppose, is with the color. I started out to color the strip like I have done all the others. I puts flats to everything then I started to add shadow and highlights, etc, etc. But the thing that changed this time was that I had more of a color pallet that I feel really works well with each other. When all the flats were in and it all came together I really didn’t want to mar that with shadow and the rest, so I left it pretty much just in the flats stage.
I am still on the fence though about the coloring. I like the flats because they are simple and scream “Saturday Morning Cartoons” like when I was a kid. But a twitch in my eye makes me want to go over everything with more detail too, I don’t know, what do you guys think? Gimme some feedback on everything you like and don’t like in the strip today.
Again, thanks for the support, for reading and voting and have a great weekend

I like the colors, of course I’m no expert on the details and such, but it definitely grabs your attention. Of course, I love the story line. (I’m likely to spend more time with the art department guy) Very funny!!!
Thanks Michele. I had a lot more fun drawing this and putting in all the little cameos and details in that last panel than most of the other comics so far.
it’s perfect as is, in this case you/ve crafeted a strong gag – and all the rendering in the world wouldn’t help, since the joke IMHO is LOL funny. And it doesn’t get better than that if you spend five more hours on it.
Thanks for the kind words about the writing on the comic. It’s good to know that I am writing stuff that connects with people. It’s sometimes hard for me to tell what is working and what isn’t, a lot of my friends like certain jokes so when I do jokes they don’t like I wonder if they resonate with anyone else (I always figure they do, but it’s still good to actually have confirmation
I love the simplicity of it, yet, I know it is a fine art to accomplish that look. They are nice and vibrant. Ye not glaring and garish. Well done, and I appreciate what you put into your craft. Makes me feel very inept.
Thanks Drew. Coming from someone who’s work I greatly admire and am inspired by your compliments mean a lot. I’ve been told that the colors help the art pop that much more and I am inclined to agree, though it is always a little weird straying from my familiar style, but what I have done today is a lot more in the direction that I originally intended the comic to go anyway so I will probably continue down this path. Thanks again for the comments
