I used the Marvel app in today’s comic as an excuse to talk about it a little bit. I hear both good and bad things about it from both creators and readers alike. And though both arguments are valid I personally kind of like the app. I want to make note that I do not own an ipad, but I do own an ipod touch and have the Marvel app for that device. I am on the fence about the app because, even though I think the interface and usability is very intuitive, I don’t really feel like Marvel is doing anything innovative with the app.

Granted I don’t really have any suggestions on what they could do, but – come on – they just got bought by Disney and they were already dubbed “The House of Ideas” so I am sure they could do something a little bit better than what is essentially tapping a print comic to the ipad and offering it up as an app.

Again, I do like the app (im not real on board with their business model for it – too many older issues that I don’t really want to read up for sale) and I am sure that given some time and effort Marvel will come up with better things and make it worth my while to, oh I dunno, buy and read all of my comics from that app. I mean, think about iTunes for comics guys, hell, I’d buy that for a dollar!
