Kidney Stone: 2011
Hey guys. I know it’s been way too long since anything has been posted, much less a new comic. If you follow my Twitter feed then you will know some of the story, but let me fill in the rest in this blog.
As many of you may know, during the holidays me and my fiance made a big move by consolidating all of our things and moving into a bigger apartment together. The timing was pretty bad considering the holidays are always insane and with our day job work schedule and the fact that she was working a second job and, if you count freelancing, so do I things just got a little bit out of control and really crazy.
Fast forward to one week after New Years. Right after I posted the New Year’s Eve comic I had decided to take a break from the comic until we got moved. The very day that we officially moved into our new apartment, boxes still loaded and packed high, furniture still in two locations (my fiance’s old apartment and now our new one) and pets freaking out, I developed a kidney stone – I like to refer to it as Kidney Stone:2011. If you’ve never had a kidney stone let me sum up the feeling for you as my best friend and I – through a series of lengthy discussions came to the conclusion of – think it’s best described. T0 have a kidney stone moving from your kidney to your bladder it feels like some one is hitting you with an impaling sledgehammer (a sledge with an 8″ spike on the end of it) in the kidney over and over again all the time, always! You don’t sleep, you don’t eat, you don’t crap, you can pee (if its only in one kidney, if its in both kidneys then all bets are off in the pee unit) you can walk and it actually makes if feel a bit better, physical exercise helps too for some reason, you can’t focus on work, it’s hard to breath – in short – life just plain sucks! Long hot showers – that wound up screwing up my skin – and pain meds that had to be rationed only when the most excruciating pain hit were the only relief I had. All of this lasted a week almost to the hour.
I was exhausted from moving for two weeks, making the official move into the new apartment and then my soul and the rest of my energy was drained by the kidney stone. All of these factors are the reasons I have not updated a new comic since New Year’s Eve or done any posting outside of Twitter as well (until now).
Now that I am feeling better (knock wood) and the stone is in my bladder where it’s – so far – painless, I need to focus on freelance work and generating new freelance business. With the ER and Doctor visits I have almost doubled the debt I had before all this started. I need to make more money this year than I have made in any of the other years I’ve been freelancing. I need to catch up and make a plan. So, I’m still gonna be taking a break from the comic for a while. I know I won’t be posting any new comics for the rest of this month. I hope to get one up at least for Valentine’s Day and maybe pretty regularly during February, but I can’t make any promises.
I do have a lot of plans for the comic and the site this year. I want to finally get t-shirts up for sale and do more original art auctions and possibly take commissions during the summer too. But right now I gotta get well and get caught up. Thanks for understanding. You guys have always been awesome and make doing the comic that much better for me. Keep checking out my Twitter feed for daily funny and up-to-the-minute updates on what’s going on in my little world and keep spreading the word about the comic archives too
