This is pretty much how most weeks start off for me too, with a big “WTF?!”. I haven’t gotten the new story lines nailed down just yet – but I do have things brewing in the old noggin – like I’ve mentioned many times before, this year has just kicked my butt and I think my brain and body are giving up for now. So, I’ve been sort of taking these last couple of months easy. I’ve been doing a lot of doodling and trying to nail down problem areas in my style and I think I am making progress (such as the fact that I FINALLY really like how I am attaching legs to the characters now). I’ve doodle most of the guys with the “new” legs and they look great. The women will probably be a variant of this, but I have to retain more of a “shapely” form in doing it.
I’ve also been thinking about my end goal for how the coloring will look and I’ve been experimenting a little bit with that over the past couple of strips as well. I really do love the direction I am going with everything in the strip. The coloring has drastically improved this year as has my drawing style and my visual storytelling. Of course there will always be improvement in those areas as well as writing, I really am starting to jump into the “Whys” and “Hows” of comedy writing so I hope for that to improve a lot next year too.
The other big thing that I’ve been working hard on these couple months has been book 2, Cats in Space and other such nonsense, and it is on track to be finished and on the site by the end of this year. I had planned to have it up and ready for order by Christmas, but life got in the way a bit and that didn’t happen. At any rate, I’ll leave it at that for now. Expect at least two more comics this month – a Christmas and New Years comic – and thank you all for an absolutely amazing year. The feedback I get from you guys here and on Twitter helps drive me to keep improving and giving you the best that I can. Thank you all for spreading the word about the comic and taking your time each update to read. I really do hope you enjoy the comic as much as I do making it. Thank you and Happy Holidays

It’s the karmic snowball! Fun, Thomas. Love the style and color.
Thanks Mark! I appreciate the kudos. To be honest I think this and the strip before it are the best coloring I’ve done so far. I’d like to keep it in this direction.
This gag is pretty great! ha!
Thanks Will. I had originally planned this to be a one-off gag, but with the help of my fiancee I’m building a Christmas story line around it I am doing my best to get going and done by the new year. Thanks for the comments guys and thanks for reading
The line knock-outs you’re doing look pretty slick. Are you digitally inking the lines that color? or going back over black lines to get that effect? Its pretty nice either way. I used to do knock-outs, till I realized it was killing me slowly. (I was probably doing it the hard way.)
Thanks again Will. Yes, I ink digitally in Adobe Illustrator so I generally do all the inking in black until I have everything in the scene that I want then I go in on a different level to color things and occasional add color to some of the ink line work as well in the process. With Illustrator it’s a matter of selection and then assigning a new color to it. In Photoshop it’s probably a bit more involved.
Ah, Yes! That would explain it. Would be SO much easier just to pick a different color for the line selection in illustrator. It would be worth switching for that alone. I keep clinging onto doing traditional with my strips in the hopes that someday people would actually care to buy them. But I work so much faster digitally.
Its a nice effect though man. Keep it up! I look forward to seeing one tomorrow.
